Interview with Charles Cronea

While reading some other genealogy sites and family trees, I ran across the following document. This was interesting and thought I'd share. Just click the "pop-out" option to open the pdf in a full window or tab.

This is a PDF file containing an interview with Charles Cronea, written by Walter B. Stevens, special correspondent of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, and published in the book Through Texas in 1892.

First place scrapbook competition

High Island Student Council won first in a scrapbook competition back in the day. I don't know about you all, but I don't know of any schools that have scrapbooking. Yearbooks I have heard of, but not scrapbooking. So I thought this was interesting. And of course, dad sponsoring all the way.

Transcription:

Pay Raise for Educators

This I thought was an interesting article. I'm not sure of the exact year. Even back in the day the Pay for Educators sucked!  Also, interesting that they name my great-grandfather as the State Education Commissioner. Who knew right.

AUSTIN (AP) - Texas public school teachers can get pay raises during the wage-price freeze only if they were at work before Aug. 15 or received advanced college degrees, State Education Commissioner J.W. Edgar said Monday.
Edgar said he had received word from Arnold R. Weber, director of the U.S. Cost of Living Council, that Texas must follow a CLC ruling issued Sept. 3.
